EARLY EYES (Paine 2010)                                    $30.00 for 2 Fans

EARLY EYES (Paine 2010)  height 24", bloom 4.25", season E, Rebloom, Dormant, Diploid, Fragrant,  Burnt orange petals with slightly lighter sepals, crimson band, yellow petal midribs, and gold to tiny green throat. (Black Eyed Stella × Ruffled Masterpiece)

This is one of the earliest to bloom in our daylily fiields, and one of the earliest to bloom that is not a yellow.  Enjoy.

SALMON EYE (Paine 2011)                                  $40.00 for 2 Fans

(Paine 2011) height 27", bloom 5.5", season EM, Semievergreen, Diploid, Fragrant,
Heavily ruffled leathery bright salmon-orange, with red eyezone and wide yellow to green throat, with slightly lighter colored sepals. (Cinnamon Sunrise X Jedi Tequila Sunrise)

Jedi Tequila Sunrise was seen in the Wedgeworth garden the year it was introduced, and I bought it on the spot, despite an apparent wimpy nature, as seen in Northern Florida.  Back in Virginia, it proved to be a hardy dormant (unlike the information that was Registered), grew like a tall fabulously branched weed, and was an excellent parent.

ALL SAINTS DAY IS TOMORROW (Paine 2010)                      $40.00 for 2 Fans

ALL SAINTS DAY IS TOMORROW  (Paine, 2010) height 33", bloom 4.5", season MLa, Dormant, Tetraploid, Fragrant,  Ruffled vibrant orange gold, with red band, and gold to green throat. (Strawberry Candy × Thrift Shop Fantasy)

APPLES AND ORANGES (Paine 2011)                         $40.00 for 2 Fans

(Paine 2011) height 34", bloom 5", season EM, Dormant, Tetraploid,
Nearly flat round ruffled light orange with reddish eyezone and gold to green throat. (Alabama Jubilee X Tuscawilla Tigress)

Alabama Jubilee was obtained directly from Dick Webster when introduced, used heavily as a parent, both ways, and has given lots of nice seedlings.  Despite being bred in Alabama, A.J. survives easily overwinter in unprotected pots in Virginia, Zone 7.

BURNS ALL DAY (Paine 2010)                                    $40.00 for 2 Fans

The second year after lining out, this one exploded into fabulously branched scapes that we had not seen for several years.  It is a far better plant than we thought when we registered it.

BURNS ALL DAY  (Paine, 2010) height 37", bloom 5.5", season M, Dormant, Tetraploid, Fragrant,  Golden orange with red eyezone and green throat. (Mended Heart × Alabama Jubilee)

A fiery daylily deserves this name, and I am amazed that it was not taken long ago!

MOTHER LOVES ME  (Paine 2011)  height 31”, bloom 5.75”, season M, Dormant, Tetraploid, Fragrant. Ruffled pale yellow with crimson eyezone and large gold to green throat. (El Desperado X King George)

One of the ingredients in CREPES SUZETTE. a favorite dessert, but not in the ancestry of that bloom (too bad, it would have made a nice story)..

PAHOEHOE (Paine 2011)                                 $40.00 for 1 Fan

(Paine 2011)  height 33", bloom 4", season EM, Semievergreen, Tetraploid, Fragrant,
Ruffled recurved round bright orange pony, with wide subtle diffuse darker orange red eyezone, yellow to green throat, and variable gold midrib,  [(Alabama  Jubilee X Charles Johnston) X Tropical Heat Wave]

Pahoehoe is a Hawaiian word, so each vowel is pronounced individually, giving it five syllables.  This is the free-flowing basaltic lava that forms the rounded cowpies that are relatively comfortable to walk on barefoot, after cooling.  The lava clinkers not so comfortable to walk on go by the name of "AA" (Name Reserved).   Given that PAHOEHOE starts off orange, not an inappropirate name for one of my orange Tets.

PAINTED COURTESAN (Paine 2010)                           $50.00 for 1 Fan

(Paine 2010)   height 33", bloom 6", season La, Semi-Evergreen, Tetraploid,  Salmon reddish pink petals and sepals, with a bold crimson red band, and gold to green throat, sepals have a yellow core, petals have a pinkish midrib,. (Thrift Shop Fantasy × Restless Heart)

The Registrar was curious as to the naming of this one, and as the origin of the name was obscure, I told him. The explanation ended up in his Column in the Daylily Journal, in about the Spring of 2011.

height 28", bloom 4.5", season MLa, Dormant, Tetraploid, Fragrant, Bright gold with bold ("Harvard") crimson eyezone and orange to green throat, heavy substance, [An Eyeful of Gold X (Black Eyed Susan X Centerpiece)]

As a true son of Harvard (or should we say, a son of a son of Harvard), this bloom is sporting an eyezone of his college colors.  His allegiance is to the CLASS OF '68.
